ニュージーランド在住の時、家庭菜園をしていた私。こちらで家を購入して早速庭に畑を作って今回が初めての夏。クリスマスまで野菜たちはぐんぐん育ち、収穫を待ち望んでいた矢先、とんでもない猛暑で皆へろへろになってしまった、、、ニュージーにいる時は毎日水はやり放題、夏と言えども肌寒い日が多かったので少しでも長く日の当たる所に野菜を植えてたんだけど、干ばつと猛暑のこちらではそんなことしたらだめなのねぇ、、、と反省。それでもなるべく無農薬の野菜が食べたいと探し回ってオーガニック野菜ボックスを週一で配達してもらうことにしました。毎週箱一杯に畑からとってそのまま詰めました、って感じの野菜が届いて嬉しい限り！でも、これなに？？って野菜や、しっているけど今まで買ったことが無いって野菜も入っているので、その度にインターネットで料理法を検索したりして。ここ３週ほどビートルートが入ってきて、私の頭ではビートルート＝ロシア料理のボルシチしか思い浮かばないので野菜スープに取りあえず入れてみたら家族には超不評でした。ボルシチはもっと奥が深い料理なのね、、、週一回集まっているマルチカルチュラルグループの仲間に色々アイデアをもらってその国々のレシピをアレンジしてみてます。
ところで、オーガニックと言えば無農薬。と言うことはもちろん野菜には腹ペコ青虫が漏れなくついてくる。ブロッコリーなんかはきれいに取ったつもりでも，茹でているとぷか～りと浮いてくる。私たち知らないうちにかなりの青虫を食べていると思う。台所のところどころにも青虫君が徘徊している。猫がじっと床を見ているときは間違いなく青虫を見つけた時。そしてこの間はうまい具合に難を逃れた一匹がさなぎになってしまい孵化して家の中でモンシロチョウがひらひら飛んでいるではないか～！う～ん、無農薬野菜が我が家をここまでワイルドにしてしまうとは、、、恐るべし！
最近はふにふに歩いている青虫をじっと観察するのが面白くなってきています。外に出してやろうと野菜クズで拾おうとすると、さささっと乗ってくる青虫、きゃ～！って感じで思いっきりのけぞる青虫、死ぬ振りをする青虫などなど、彼らにも性格があるのだ。

This is the first summer we growing veggies in our back garden in Aus. I used to grow veggies in NZ and enjoyed quite bit so it is so exciting I can do it again. The plants are growing fast till Christmas very well but after several severe hot days most of them dried out. When we were in NZ we could water them every day and also summer in Christchurch is very mild, I planted veggies sunniest hottest position which was big mistake in dry hot Ballarat.... Well, never mind,next year We will do bit better than that.
I still can't give up feeding family fresh organic vegetable.I searched the organic farm and getting organic veggie box every week.It is great we get full of box organic vegetables to the door but sometimes we get veggies that not familiar at all or I never cooked before.I often look at website to find what it is or ask my friends who meet up every week as a multi cultural group.
We have root beet for 3 weeks and I never cook it before. In my brain Beetroot=borscht(Russian soup) so I chuck them into vegetable soup which get bad review from family...I should have followed proper recipe.Anyway I am getting better dealing with unknown veggies and enjoying new taste.
By the way, organic= no chemical spray which means vegetables are delivered with some very hungry caterpillars quite high possibility.We often find them at the kitchen. If our cat stops and looking at one place, most of the time he found a caterpillar inching on the floor. Couple of weeks ago one lucky survivor become cocoon and changed into butterfly, flying in the kitchen! Organic box even changed our life wild!

I recently quite enjoy watching caterpillars. When I tried to rescue them with veggie scrap, some of them jump on it straight way, some are terrified and bend their body backwards, some are pretend to be dead. They have got characters!

2010年も宜しく！

長かった休みもやっと終わり今日からこちらは新学期。
今回のクリスマス＆正月は史上最悪でした、、、。クリスマス前から車が煙を吹いたり、改築した風呂場から水漏れして隣のワードロープが水浸しになったりと（水漏れは今も直ってません）、いや～な前兆はあったのですが、、、
まずはクリスマスの朝、車が路上で完全に動かなくなってレッカーで運ばれてしまった。時期が時期なので車は１０日以上修理されずに私たちはどこにも行けずじまい。そして２６日から私以外の家族が次々と最強の下痢風邪に襲われ、難を逃れていた私も大晦日にはトイレから出れずじまい。そんな状況の中で近所で山火事発生！近所は次々と非難をはじめ、メルボルンのおばさんからも電車でおばさん宅まで非難したらと、連絡をもらったものの、こんなおなかの状況で、バララットから出るどころかトイレからも出れない！幸運にも近所に住んでいるアンドリューの同僚が使っていない車を貸してくれたものの超スモールカーの上にフロントグラス一面にひびが入ってる～！これでは時速３０キロ以上出したらガラスが砕けて危ないのでメルボルンは諦めて、とりあえず危険地帯のエリアから出よう！と貴重品を詰め込んで無理無理家族５人と猫を乗せてマクドナルドの駐車場で非難。が、我が家の猫はニュージーランドからオーストラリアに引っ越すときに籠に詰められたことがトラウマになったらしく、それ以来籠に入れると異常なほど怖がり、龍のひざの上でおしっこを大量に漏らし大変なことに。猫のおしっこはくさいのよね、、、本当に、、、
ま、その後本当にいいタイミングで大雨が降り火事は鎮火して民家には被害が無かったのでよかった。
が、本当に踏んだりけったりの年末でした。これで全部厄を落として今年は何事も無く平穏に過ぎていって欲しいと願うばかりです。

Well,school holidays are over finally!Hooray!
How was your Xmas and new year?
We had the worst xmas holiday ever!
Before it started we had a couple of problem like our new bathroom leaked and water went into our wordrobe( the leak still isn't fixt yet!) and our car broke down.
In the morning of Christmas day our car totally broke down on the road and stayed at garage more than 10 days that meant we couldn't go anywhere. From 26th our family got severe gastro except me and I got it from new years eve. The evening bush fire started near our area.Our neigbours started to evacuate and we got a phone call from auntie who said go to Melborne by train and stay her house.But at that time I hardly could leave the toilet it was impossible to leave Ballarat.
Kindly Andrew's colleague who lives down the road offered their spare car for us so we didn't have to walk to evacuate. But the car was a super compact car and there are cracks oll over the front window.There was no way to drive it over 30k/h so we forgot about going to Melbourne and decided just to leave dangrous area. We packed up some important stuff and toilet rolls and 5 people plus a cat jammed in the car,went to Macdonald's car parking at out of dangerous area.The cat which is in the cage on the Julian's knee has been crazy. when we moved from NZ to Aus our cat was collecteted by a specialist and stayed cage 3 days. He was so scared and traumatized. So he couldn't handle this situation and did big wee on Julian's lap....it went everywere and as you know cat's wee smells awful..........
After hour or so we got heavy rain which killes all fire so nobody got damagedwhich was very lucky.
Well, we had such a interesting Xmas and new year.
Hopefully all the bad things finished and we have peacaful 2010 all around.
