川崎病/ Kawasaki disease

日本人の方々なら名前を聞いたことこともあるかもしれませんが、３男鴻介が川崎病にかかってしまいました。２１日の午後幼稚園から帰ってくると手がほかほか。本人は元気でしたが目をつぶると左目が痛い、と言いました。朝起きたときには左の口が痛いから朝ごはん食べれないかも、と言ってたのですが口の中には何も無く結局朝ごはんも食べたので歯でも痛いのかな？と思っていたのですが。熱を測ると３８，６度。これくらいの年の子供を持つ親ならこんなことは日常茶飯事なので水分を取らせて様子を見てました。が、どんどん辛そうになってきて左耳が痛い、その次は左の首が痛い、と、言い出しました。夜も寝れずに熱も３９度前後で全然動かない。普通の風邪やらインフルエンザなら熱は上がったり下がったりするのに？そのうち左の耳の下あたりが腫れてきたので、これはおたふくか何かかかと思い夕方病院へ行ったものの３時間待って"様子を見ましょう。”とだけ言われて帰されてしまった。様子を見ておかしいから行ったのに、と、思いつつ夜を明かしました。次の朝ちょっとだけ元気になって本人も昨日より調子が良い、と言うので安心したのものの、熱は下がらず首の腫れもそのまま、次の日には首をまっすぐに出来なくなるほど痛くなってしまいました。その後手足から発疹が出始めて、手と足の裏が赤く腫れてきた。すぐに公立病院の救急に連れて行ってそこで川崎病と診断され即入院になりました。治療に使うガンマグロブリンという点滴が常備しておらずメルボルンから送られてきたので治療を始めるのが次の日になってしまったり、一回目の治療では効果が出ず再度点滴治療をしたりと、本当に心配の連続でしたが、症状も落ち着き、この病気で一番怖い心臓の血管の腫れや瘤も今のところ認められませんでした。でもこの病気はこれから症状が出ることもあるので、とりあえず第一段階クリア、といったところでしょうか。この病気は最近発見されたものだし、なぜなるのか、これから年をとったらどうなるのか、というのも良く分かっていない状態。特にこちらではまれな病気なので、公立病院でもはじめは髄膜炎と誤診されそうになりました。ナースステーション内では看護士さんたちの話題の的だし、回診では小児科医がぞろぞろと見に来ました。私は子供のかかりやすい病気についてはひととおり目を通してあるので川崎病についても基本的な症状などは知っていましたが、今回、川崎病の子供を持つ会などのホームページに目を通して大変な思いをしているご家族の話をたくさん読みました。軽くても重くても子供が病気になってしまうのは本当に辛いものですね、、、
川崎病のホームページ、たくさんあるので時間があったら（特に５歳以下の子供を持つ方は）良かったら目を通してみてください。どんなものか知っていれば、万が一子供に窺わしい症状が出た時にすぐに対処できるし、誤診も防げると思います。鴻介は痩せてしまいましたが元気です。心配してくださった方たち、ありがとう。
If you are Japanese you might have heard about Kawasaki disease. Unfortunately Justin got this.Things started on the 21st/Oct. When I held his hand after picking him up from Kinder I immediately knew he has got a temperature. He looked OK but he complained his left eye is sore when he closed his eyes.In the morning he said he might not be able to eat breakfast because his left mouth is sore. I checked inside and outside of his mouth but couldn't find anything and he actually ate breakfast so I thought he might be getting a sore tooth or something. If you have got children about this age you are not freaking out about child's temperature. I let him take it easy and observed him closely. Later on he start looking miserable and telling me his left ear is sore then his neck is sore.His temperature didn't go down at all during the night. From my experience that was really strange. Even if temperature didn't go down, it usually swings up and down during the day.I also noticed his left neck started swelling. I sent him to the docter but he came back with no result.Next morning he seemed a bit better but his temperature was still over 39C and neck lump get bigger.Next day he couldn't straighten up his neck he only could look down. Unusual red spots came up and his hands and feet become red and swelling.I suspected mumps or meningitis but both of them are not quite right. I sent him to the emergency hospital and finally he was diagnosed "Kawasaki disease".The hospital didn't have "Gamma globulin" which is useful for calming dowm these simptoms, so we had to wait starting treatment next day,also first treatment didn't work for him so he had another one again. So much worry and stress during that time. Fortunately second treatment worked well and we couldn't find any problem on his heart at this stage which is most scarey things about this disease. But it might develop later on so we feel he is clear on first step."Kawasaki disease" was found in 1967 and haven't found any cure and not sure what's going to happen when the children reach certain age which naturally blood vessel get weeker.Especially this is rare disease and not very known in western country as much as Japan. At the hospital he was almost misdiagnosed with meningitis. Every time Andrew pass the nurse station they were talking about this disease. Every morning many docters visited Justin to see him.I basically read through about common sickness for children as soon as I expect my first one so I have basic knowledge about Kawasaki disease as well but I read lots of stories about family with this disease. They are all sufferring and worrying about their loved one who has got an uncertain furture. Doesn't matter what kind of sickness minor or serious, it is hard to see children are suffering.
If you have got a time especially you got children under 5, please look through the homepage about Kawasaki disease.There are many in English and Japanese. If parents know basic symptoms you can take children to the hospital as soon as possible and avoid a misdiagnosis.
Justin become bit thinner but he looks fine.I would like to say thank you so much to everybody who worried and thinking about Justin.

コミュニケーション/ communication

待望の女の子を出産した妹が長男を連れて実家に里帰りしてきました。甥っ子は鴻介と丁度１歳違い。
そう、実家には１２，６，４，３歳の男の子が一挙に集合したわけです。そして、龍介の持ってきた任天堂ＤＳが一台。さて、どうなることでしょう、、、４人でなんだかんだ話し合った？挙句時間を決めて順番にしよう、と、決めたみたいです。ここでいざこざを起こしたらＤＳは取り上げられる、と、過去の経験上痛いほど分かっている子供たち。でも下の２人には時間の観念がまだない。その上３歳のいとこは英語が通じない、と言うわけで、私の元へ来たのは３人の中で一番周りのことが考えられる次男鷹介。日本語で’It's my turn'をどういうか聞いてきた。「僕の番」と言えばいいんだよ、と教えると輪の中に戻って他の子供たちに伝えてた。う～ん、言葉ってこうやって覚えていくものなんだよね。コミュニケーションをとる為に必要に迫られて覚えていく。日本にいる間そういう過程を興味深く見させてもらいました。
それにしても「僕の番」。私は「boku no ban」と、いったつもりなのに子供たちには「boku no bum」と聞こえたらしい。Ｉｔ'ｓ my bum　日本語に訳せば「僕のお尻」。日本語はＭとＮの発音が曖昧なのね。僕の番と聞いたとき息子たちが大爆笑だったこと、そしてその言葉は今もしっかり３人の脳に刻み込まれていることは間違いなし。ああ、男の子ってお下品、、、木の枝とナメクジと子犬のしっぽ、、、
After my sister had a baby she came back to my parents' house with her kids for having rest. There are 4 boys who are 12, 6,4,3 year old in one house and there was only one Nintendo DS. What is going to happen? um,,, They negotiated each other and seemed all agreed to take turns at certain time. From their experience our kids know exactly what would happen if they fight about game. Mum take game and all of them lose the turn. But 4 year and 3year don't understand "time".On top of that 3year one doesn't understand English.So Jayden who is the one who most understand how others feel came to me and asked what to say in Japanese "It's my turn".I told him and he went back to brothers and told them.I was quite interested to see the process to kids getting different language. This is the way to learn real language.
By the way I translated "It's my turn"to Japanese "Boku no ban"But for my kids, they could hear "boku no bum" I's my bum. Japanese dosen't have distinction between N and M sounds.So as you gessed our kids loved using "it's my turn" in Japanese and it never erased from their brain. OH, boy,boy,boy,,,,,,Made of stick, snail and tail of puppy,,,

男の子って、、、/boy boy boy,,,,

８年ぶりに大集合した家族。私の妹の第二子も私たちの到着を待っていたかのように３週間早く生まれてきた。で、こんな機会は滅多にないと近所のホテルで家族写真を撮りました。天気が良かったのでコロニアル風のホテルの庭でも孫５人のスナップショット。でもなぜか、鷹介と鴻介がずっと何かぼそぼそしゃべりながらクスクスと笑っている。わけを聞いてみると「ライオンがゲロッてる～！！」と、大爆笑。
ああ、、、どうして男の子ってすべてがゲロだのうんちだのげっぷだの、下品なことになってしまうんだろう。こちらでは「男の子は木の枝とナメクジと子犬のしっぽから出来ている」ということわざがあるが、考えた人は偉い！全くそのとおりです。で、女の子は「お砂糖とスパイスと素敵なものすべて」から出来ているそうです。そのとおりだよね！？
Our family finally got together. My younger sister just had a baby girl 3 weeks earlier than due date looks like she didn't want to miss out this occasion. So we took ourselves to the hotel to take a family photo. After the photo shooting we also took 5 grand children's photos in front of colonial style water fountain. During that Jayden and Justin were keep talking and giggling about something.When I asked why they both started laughing with the tears and said "the lion is vomiting!" Oh dear,,, why boys love connecting everything to poohs, vomiting, burps etc..something gross!? "Boys are made of sticks, snails and tail of puppies"I think this is quite right. What about girls? Of course"Girls are made of sugar, spices and everything nice"

ディズニーリゾート

子供たちの日本に行ったら行きたいところナンバーワンはやっぱりディズニーリゾート。ハロウィンも始まってるし、なんといっても大型連休にはいっているので激混みは間違いなしなのは分かりきってるものの、今度はいつ来れるか分からないし、私もディズニーシーには行った事が無いので頑張って一泊で行ってきました。予想外にも鴻介が身長制限をクリアしたので乗り物はすべてＯＫ！とはいうもののスプラッシュマウンテンなどは乗った後がたがた震えてた。ジャングルクルーズでは「あれは本物？」と、真剣顔。とにかく皆それぞれに夢の世界を満喫しました。ご存知のようにここではアトラクションはもとよりディズニーのキャラクターたちに会えるのも醍醐味。最近は人気キャラには引率のお姉さんが付いているので、他の家族とバトルを繰り広げなくても一緒に写真が撮れるようになりました。（え？ずいぶん前から？）２日目、ディズニーシーの入り口でミッキーマウスを発見！そそくさと列に並びました。３０分待ちと言われましたが、ディズニーランドの３０分待ちなんてちょろいもん。辛抱づよく待って、さて、次は私たちの番！と、思ったら時計を見たお姉さん、「ミッキーちゃんこれからお友達を連れに行って来ますね～！ちょっと待っててくださいね～！」と言ってミッキーともども笑顔で手を振ってどこかに行ってしまった。おいおい、そりゃないよ。友達ってまさかジャングルクルーズの猿とかじゃないよね！？不安一杯に待っていると、にこやかに手を振りながら現れたのはミニーマウス。か、可愛い～！抱きつかれてぶちゅっとキスされた子供たちはほわわ～ん！目がハートになってる。それにしても彼女の立振の舞いの可愛らしいこと！写真の立ち姿もパーフェクト！う～、同じ女性として恥ずかしい！私も一緒にほわわ～ん！ミニーちゃんとお別れしてしばらく、「ミニー、、、かわいい、、、」と、つぶやき続けていた鴻介。私もダイエットしてミニーのように可愛くなろう！と、心に誓ったのであった。で、一ヶ月たった今、、、誓った気持ちは変わってません！でもまだ実行に移ってないだけ～、、、！
The place we must go in this trip for kids was Disney resort. It must be extrenely busy because of big public holidays and has just started Halloween attraction.But if we missed this chance we are not sure when will be the next time, so we decided to have a go for one night trip.
Surprisingly Justin was tall enough,we all could enjoy any rides. In fact Justin was seriously shaking after ride for 'Sprush mountain' and kept asking us if there are real animals or not at 'Jungle cruise' etc.. Anyway we all had a great time at dream world "Disney land".
The big things at Disney resort is not only rides but also meeting Disney characters. Recently(sometimes after 8years ) all the main character has a minder so we don't have to fight among other families to take photos with them. We found Mickey mouse at the Disney Sea on our 2nd day and made a queue to say hello to Michey. The minder said it going to be 30minutes waiting but here 30 minutes is nothing. We waited waited waited and finally it was our turn. Then the minder looked at the watch and said "Well, Micky is leaving to invite other friend! Please wait here!"They waved at us and gone! Hay! wait second! who is coming then.You woun't bring a monkey in Jungle book or any minor characters!? Oh,no,Please!! But the minder came back shortly with cheerful Minnie mouse.She was so gourgeous and cute. Our sons got kisses and hugs from her and they melted so was I. Look at her in the photo! She stood 120% perfect! So feminine!As a same woman I was embarrassed myself! After we said good-bye to Minnie Justin kept talking to himself."Minnie....so, cute...."
I decided that I will start diet and become gorgeous like Minnie. After 1 month from the trip, My decision hasn't changed but only I haven't started yet. I will, Iwill someday!

帰ってきました/ We are back

８年ぶりの日本から無事に帰ってきました！行く前から口をすっぱくして教え込んでいたお陰か、３人の息子たちはコガモのように私たちの後についてきたので、めちゃ込みのディズニーランドでも迷子になることも無く本当に良かった。じいじ、ばあばや私の姉妹、いとこたちとも言葉の壁を越えたコミュニケーション能力で完璧に分かり合ってたから面白い。この旅で子供たちの心をがっちり捉えたのが回転寿司と温泉、そして緑茶。特に長男の龍介は日本から帰って以来、毎朝日本茶を飲んでから学校にいくようになりました。８年ぶりの日本、私の実家の最寄り駅は全く変わっていましたが、その他は、道が広くなってたり、あるべきところにあるべきものが無くなってたり、建物が変わってたり、いきなりタイムスリップしたような不思議な感じでした。あ、案の定電車の切符を買うのはとまどった。わ～！販売機にボタンがいっぱい！アンドリューは見かけは１００％外人なので聞かれた人もなんとも思わないけど、私が聞くと聞かれた人も戸惑っていたよう。それにしても私日本で絶対に浮いてたと思う。９月には入ってちょっと気温が下がるともう皆んな秋の装い。私だけがサンダルとＴシャツ。その上日本の湿気と電圧の違いでいまいち熱くなりきれないヘアーストレートナーのせいで、私の髪は悲惨な状態に。電車に乗るたびに「この人は一体何者！？」と言う感じの視線が注がれてたこと間違いなし。
書くことが一杯ありすぎて、何から書いてよいのか分からないので、これからおいおい、テーマに分けて書いていこうかな、と思ってます。うんざりしないでね～！
We are back from Japan safely!We all had an awesome time there. Before we go there I kept telling to my kids that they mustn't leave us without telling because once you get lost, that's it.So kids were following me everywhere like little ducklings and I didn't lose any of them even at bloody busy Disneyland.
My kids communicated amazingly well with all my family with English and some Japanese. They loved everything they tried but hot springs, sushi and green tea were the best. Julian(oldest) now has cup of green tea every morning before he goes to school.
After 8years, around the nearest station has completely changed but most of the place has changed slightly.The road become wider, some shops has gone or demolished, some places are bit different.... I felt weird, I felt like I time slipped.
As everybody told me before I went to Japan,I had a trouble to buy train tickets at first couple of days.So many buttons to push!! We sometimes had to ask people how to. It was OK when Andrew asked someone because he looks 100% foreigner but when I asked people reacted bit funny.As soon as I arrived,I realized how weired I look. Japanese is really sensitive about season.When we feel the temperature has dropped a little bit they change clothes for Autumn even still quite hot.I was a one who is wearing Tshirt and shorts with sandals. Plus that, humidity and my hair straightener that didn't quite work properly made my hair look awfully out of control.I could feel people looking at me thinking that she looks Japanese,but something is not quite right.
I have got lots of things to write and I don't know where to start.I will write bits and bits from now on. So please be patient reading about my Japan trip for a while.
